Do It Yourself! Volume #6

Error
"Nothing is Working"
This hard-driving melange of rhythm and noise puts me in mind of Aphex Twin's, "Come to Daddy." Now I'm just waiting on an accomanying Chris Cunningham, nightmare-inducing video.

Blag Dahlia
"Metrosexual"
The perennially perverse frontman from the Dwarves brings us this morning radio-ready novelty track, criticizing the latest trend in immasculating the male populace.

Good Riddance
"More De Palma, Less Fellini"
Dang! Who knew vegetarians could rock this hard?

Buju Banton
"Paid Not Played"
The gravelly voiced, reggae legend makes his second appearance on a DIY! comp. with a track celebrating the high maintanence woman. The man likes his women, but likes 'em best when they "rockin' Prada!"

Flogging Molly
"Devil's Dance Floor"
Heard these guys on the Warped tour for the first time and was blown away. Traditional Irish instrumentation meets punk rawk sensibilities. Plus bonus points for the inclusion of the tin whistle.

The Nerve Agents
"Poisoning"
Dissonant, hard-charging  punk rock in the tradition of the classic West Coast Hardcore acts. Put this one on and pretend Reagan's still in office.

Grandpaboy
"MPLS"
Paul Westerberg, of Replacements fame, enters crazy solo-project territory with his "alter-ego" Grandpaboy. This one's a decidedly lo-fi, shuffling blues tune.

Satori
"Finding Your Place"
This side project of the RX Bandits brings it all down to a slow groove and lays down some serious traditional ska. Classic and  modern at the same time.

Brazil
"Escape"
Syncopated art-rock, with piany. Great songwriting and vocals put me in mind of Geddy Lee... except for that they don't suck.

Mouthwash
"Drop the Bomb"
U.K. young 'uns lay down a surprisingly funkdified punk track in what sound like their parents' basement. Gritty and snotty.

About the Artwork:
Sometimes you just find a big, beautiful pic file that you absolutely HAVE to do something with. That was the case here. I came across a huge scan of the box art from one of my favorite Atari 2600 games and immediately knew that it would be the next DIY! disc art. The back, of course, is based upon a screen cap from the game.
